Peloton: A Love Story

I’ve always felt pretty self-conscious working out in front of others.

Funny Story: for almost a year at Lifetime, I was using a twisting-oblique-ab-machine-thingy to twist to the left, then walking to the same machine next to it and using it to twist to the right.  Then one day after working my non-existent obliques this way, I watched another person make some sort of adjustment to the one machine to make it go both directions.  I had been doing it wrong for almost a YEAR!  IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE!

In July 2020, we ordered a Peloton along with the rest of the world.  I will never go back to working out in public.  I was always too intimidated to take a class at a gym, and now I can take thousands of classes at home.  And I swear that listening to the instructors tell me everyday how awesome I am, and how I can do hard things, I have started to believe it.  I love Peloton so much I wrote it a love poem:

An Ode to Peloton

O Peloton, lovely peloton

It’s not just to throw your coat upon.

Whether cycling at home or out on a run,

Together we will get my workout done.

Each morning I go open your app,

I choose a workout with music that slaps.

I love it when Cody calls me his boo,

but there’s Jenn, Rebecca and Andy too.

I prefer to

 schedule my classes,

Jess and Camilla help tone our asses.

Oh how you’ve helped my self-esteem grow

Strength, running, biking, bootcamp even row.

Celebrating all the holidays,

Even shouting out many birthdays.

If my house were to burn down again,

I would carry you on my back, Love Jen.
