Our Little House on the Prairie

We have so many plans for this little guy.  When we began looking for a new project, errr, house, we had a few must-haves on the list: 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with showers, a detached garage or barn and land. As my Grandma Pizzo would say, “wish in one hand, piss in the other, see which fills up first.”  We got exactly one of our wishes, land.

Luckily, half of the basement is unfinished, so we are able to add two bedrooms and a bathroom (with a shower) and we got a smokin’ deal on the property so Ryan can build a garage or barn.  And the views are TO. DIE. FOR!  All the way around.  Out the west side of the house, from the living room and master bedroom, there are mountain views of Pikes Peak.  Out the east side of the home, since it sits up on a hill, you can see the bluff to the east.  It is amazing and I hope I never get used to it.  I also know I’m very close to Ryan getting sick of me asking “don’t you just love that?” when we wake up in the morning and I look out the window.

Here is what we are working with and some of the plans we have so far….

Throughout the upper level we are going to install a new fan, Lifeproof Dusk Cherry flooring and paint all of the walls Alabaster. Since there is not one single piece of trim in the entire house, we will be installing all new trim around the doors, floors and windows and painting it Accessible Beige

In the dining room we will have the same flooring, paint and trim as the living room.  We will also replace the light fixture.  Someday I would love to add a banquet for seating along the wall, but that will be much further down the road.

The kitchen is so good I had to include two photos!  It will also have to go through two phases.  Phase One: Make it Livable.  Phase Two: Make it Dreamy! For Phase One, we will replace the floors, paint the cabinets Accessible Beige, change out the hardware, get a new refrigerator and dishwasher, and replace the counters, sink and backsplash.

In the primary bedroom we will do the same paint, trim and flooring as the rest of the upstairs.  And that fan has got to go.  The upstairs bedrooms are pretty basic, we will paint, trim and replace the light fixtures.

The same goes for the upstairs bathroom.  Paint for now, then we will figure it out.
